Tuesday 7 May marked a double celebration for the National Literacy Trust as it opened the 1,000th primary school library in the Libraries for Primaries campaign, and 50th in The Coronation Libraries Project. Its Patron, Her Majesty Queen Camilla joined Waterstones Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho at Moreland Primary School for the grand opening, where the award-winning poet read his exclusive, celebratory poem, One Thousand Libraries.

What’s next?
1,000 libraries equates to over 380,000 primary-aged children across the UK who now have access to books in a way that they didn’t before. Access to a well-curated library space provides these children with life-changing opportunities, whatever their postcode or circumstances.
If you work in a primary school that doesn’t have a library, the National Literacy Trust love to hear from you.
